Solar Mission 2020 will help India to produce 20,000MW solar power by year 2020, thus making India the largest producer of solar power. Solar Mission under the National Action Plan on Climate Change got an in principle nod from the PM on 3rd August 2009.

This’ll be a great step towards the use of clean energies but it also raises many concerns:

1. The existing mechanism for renewable energy had failed to meet the expectations.
2. The weakness in the institutional framework of Atomic Energy Regulatory commission.
3. The cost of the Solar Mission is unknown, will India seek financial and technological help from international bodies like UN.
